One Afternoon at Spark Coffee + Crafts

Spark Coffee + Crafts Davao Coffee Shop

On days when I feel like I’ve been stuck in the house for a while, I try my best to go out, catch  up with my friends, see the outside world and work on my backlogs in a coffee shop. Sometimes, being in a place with a few friends and some random people surprisingly makes me productive. I don’t know, it’s just me.  Here in Davao, a lot of coffee shop establishments are slowly rising and with a number of shops around the city, it’s a bit hard to find a place where there’s less people.

Just yesterday, me and my friends decided to catch up over merienda while we do our business. The past few months has been like this: we meet up, we open our laptops, take photos if possible, try to blog ,talk random topics while enjoying our snacks. One of the problems in our group chat is always “where to dine”. I know you have this problem too. I know everyone does. Lol. So, after a lot of suggestions, we ended up in Spark Coffee + Crafts. The main reason why I wanted to check out the said place is that the last time when I was there, I actually didn’t ordered anything. Maybe during that time I had a heavy meal or something. Lol.  All I remember is, they have calligraphy tools and MUJI pens. And during that moment, those were the things that distracted me. This time though, I was eager to try out their foods!

When we entered the cafe, the barista immediately welcomed us with a greeting and a warm smile. While I was flipping their minimalist menu, first things first, I need to get myself an Iced Caramel Macciato (my usual coffee) and anything bread. I was clueless on what to get because all the snacks in their menu sounds so good, as a result,  I had to ask the barista their best selling food. Right then and there, I settled with what the barista suggested, the Frenchees (160Php). It’s basically bread stuffed with generous amount of cheese with mustard on the side. Definitely a cheese lover’s dream! Also, the size of the bread is pretty decent for its price. You get two slices of Frenchees that is actually good for sharing. Me and my friends finished the meal in a few minutes. Lol. I guess that says how much we liked the food.

After a few hours of working, taking photos and talking we ended up orderding another snack. Since the owner came and talked to us, we asked him another best seller, he then suggested the Monti Cristo. The said food is fried boiled ham and cheese sandwich with sweet syrup. And I  it’s  one of the best  that I have tasted. The usual Monti Cristo is just plane looking fried bread but i’m really impressed with the cafe’s presentation and how it was cooked. Props to them for making the food insta-worthy. Lol

I guess it’s safe to say that Spark Coffee + Crafts is one of my go to coffee shops in Davao since they have a cozy ambiance, good food and a very unpretentious interior, in a good way though. Some coffee shops nowadays tend to look the same because they follow certain trends. I like their minimalist look. Maybe the next time I come back, I’ll probably try enrolling myself in Calligraphy class while trying out other foods in their menu. 🙂
